McCartan and Company works closely with our clients to develop the skills and materials needed for participants to prepare and deliver sound, effective business presentations with confidence.

In addition to tailored coaching, copywriting, and graphic design services for individual presentations, we also offer a Presentation Skills Workshop that is structured to help participants overcome the fear of speaking in public. Through a series of simple, non-threatening exercises mixed with some practical communications theory, participants have an opportunity to learn and practice giving business presentations. Since the workshop is skills training rather than just educational theory, every trainee who willingly participates shows a marked improvement, regardless of their presentation skills at the start.

The workshop is designed to improve the ability of participants to communicate verbally, with special emphasis on the organizational and speaking skills needed to make compelling, effective business presentations. The workshop is structured as a learn-by-doing experience. Primary topics include:

  1. Workshop introduction and guidelines on positive performance;
  2. Interchange between speaker and listener;
  3. Understanding the communication process;
  4. Roles of the speaker and listener;
  5. Using questions skillfully;
  6. Impromptu talk outline;
  7. Listening and evaluating;
  8. Setting a precise objective;
  9. Listener analysis;
  10. Persuading listeners to listen;
  11. Organizing ideas and materials;
  12. Arranging materials in a sequence;
  13. Audio visual aids;
  14. Introductory and closing remarks;
  15. Presentation ethics; and
  16. When the going gets a little rough.

During the training, participants receive a workbook that serves as a reference guide for future presentations.
